FDA Warns Public About Reumofan Plus

The U.S. FDA has issued a warning about Reumofan Plus -- a "natural dietary supplement" that is marketed and promoted for treating arthritis, muscle pain, osteoporosis, bone cancer, and other serious conditions. The FDA warning suggests that Reumofan Plus contains several ingredients not listed on the label that may be harmful. The FDA has received reports of liver injury, worsening of blood sugar, weight gain, swelling, leg cramps, and adrenal suppression.

Reumofan Plus is manufactured in Mexico and is labeled in Spanish. It is sold in retail outlets, flea markets, and on the Internet. The Mexican Health Ministry has issued a strong warning as well, and told Riger Naturals (the manufacturer) to recall the product. The supplement was found to contain the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, diclofenac sodium, and the muscle relaxant, methocarbamol. Some lots of Reumofan Plus may also contain corticosteroids.

If you recently took Reumofan Plus or recently stopped taking it, the FDA urges you to call your doctor. They also are urging people not to buy the product or start the product. To report adverse events to the FDA, find the contact information here.
